We must vote as if our life depends on it. This voting cycle seems more critical than before. There seems to be an active measure to suppress the vote all over the nation. This is not new to many of us. However, this moment seems different. The fact that still, 55 years after the passing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, we are still having to fight seems unfathomable. Given the blood, sweat and tears and the lives lost for us to receive the right to vote. But fight we must. We have to make sure we do all we can to confirm our registration and encourage others who have not done so, to register as well.

COVID-19 may affect how you are able vote

The COVID-19 pandemic has driven to the forefront the importance of making sure you plan on how you are going to cast your ballot this fall.  With the recent activity with the United States Post Office, we have to make sure that if we are requesting mail-in ballots that we send the requests in timely so we can receive a timely response. We should also prepare to go to the polls if there is a delay. Last week, Michelle Obama said if we have to go to the polls we need to pack a lunch and possibly dinner and our folding chair and wait. That is sometimes what it takes in order to enact change. It is more that just speaking – it requires action. We cannot wait until the last minute. Make sure you have all of your questions answered before November 3rd.

It’s about the future….

We must vote for our children and their children. We must vote for their future. To demand more resources for their schools and improvement to the system so that all children are receiving equitable treatment. To demand resources that help to uplift our communities and offer programs that allow children to flourish and be apart of building the American Dream. To must vote to demand improvements to the healthcare system and the program that are established for the elderly and the poor. Your vote is more than just about yourself – it is about all of us. We have to stand together – and now is the time.

One vote equals one voice – let’s make sure that we are heard!
